Why is cream cracker always associated with some degree of poorness, poor-thing, obliged to give sympathy, etc?

I was eating my cream cracker with milo (that makes it doubly worst) at my cubical today, and a passing by colleague exclaimed: "aiyo, you want oreo or thong guan or not? Eat cream cracker, so poorthing!"

I was like..........yeach exactly; speechless.

In my usual tone (which i mean when at home or with friends): "narbei! Cream cracker very poor thing meh? My cream cracker got SUGAR coating one okay...atas de hor!"

In my office tone: "oh so very nice of you, am doing fine with my crackers, arigatou."
